B.G.O.T.M. — B.A.D. Girls All-Stars
The B.A.D. All-Stars took on opponents from up and down California and beyond on April 5-6, 2008 at The Big One – the inaugural California roller derby championship – and came out undefeated, making them your B.A.D. Girl(s) of the Month.
Comprised of the top skaters from the league’s three home teams, the All-Stars proved they deserve their ranking of 10th top team in the nation (and sixth in the west) by plowing through two days of derby.
The formidable defense kept their opponents’ scores low the first day during 20-minute mini-bouts. The B.A.D. girls took out Bakersfield Rollergirls 89-7, Sac City Rollers with a score of 57-4 and Angel City Derby Girls, who scored the most against B.A.D. the first day, racking up 12 points to B.A.D.’s 53.
Moving onto the second day of full-length bouts, the All-Stars made their way to the championship by taking out Central Coast Roller Derby by a score of 163-39.
In the final match up they faced their fiercest competition, and their closest friends and derby wives, the Sacred City Derby Girls from Sacramento. Capping the weekend with one of the hardest-fought bouts, the B.A.D. All-Stars came out victorious, 101-30.
“The B.A.D. All-Stars are going to be rolling into cities all over the nation this year all blinged out in gold with our most talented team ever,” said co-captain Taxi Scab. “The Big One was just a warm-up for what we anticipate will be a very successful 2008 season!”
The All-Stars have already faced the Sin City Rollergirls, Minnesota Rollergirls, Carolina Rollergirls, Philadelphia Liberty Belles, Pikes Peak Derby Dames, and Rat City Rollergirls. They will add to this list at the May 10-11 “Roll for the Cure” in Orange County, and in upcoming bouts against the Tucson Roller Derby Saddletramps and a rematch with Sacred City.
